Carphone Warehouse has announced that it has cut the price of three
leading tablets in the build-up to Christmas. The online retailer
released a statement saying that it aims to offer the lowest tablet
prices on the high street.
It has already cut the price of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 to as little as £119, the 16GB iPad 3 to £359 and the 32GB Google Nexus,
which was launched two weeks ago, down to £189 (though it currently
still appears on the website for £195), a £10.99 (or 5.45 per cent)
discount from the official SRP. The only major difference between the
Nexus models is the jump in storage capacity.
Otherwise, there’s the same quad-core, Nvidia Tegra 3 system-on-chip,
clocked at 1.3GHz, 1GB of RAM, a 7in, 1,280 x 800 display with Gorilla
Glass, a front facing 1.3-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a microUSB
port but no microSD one and no HDMI port as well.
The Nexus 7 single-handedly started a revolution in the small format Android tablet sector, which saw prices tumble.
It is likely that a similar thing will happen with the impending launch of the Nexus 10, which will sport a Cortex-A15 core and a 4-megapixel display.
