Windows 8 Will Boost PC Market Indonesia?

Amid sluggish PC industry, the latest operating system of Microsoft Windows 8 is expected to provide fresh air and boost sales.
However, IDC Indonesia Head of Operations Sudev Bangah found otherwise.
"I think Windows 8 will not be a game changer for the PC market in Indonesia," he said in a discussion on the media in Jakarta, Wednesday (11/21/2012) yesterday.


Bangah highlights the style and appearance of new Windows 8 desktop environment behind it called not take changes to the usability of the operating system, in addition to the interface changes.
"The tablet is perfect and promising. But when brought to the PC, it looks nothing like it."
What about the integration of cloud storage services (SkyDrive), which became one of the flagship features of Windows 8?
"If in Indonesia, including Jakarta, the functionality will be limited by the lack of internet connectivity support, too many blank spots, including in the city though," he said.
He said the corporate as one of the greatest PC users will likely think twice before migrating to Windows 8. The reason, changes in the operating system will bring a lot of adjustments, such as in the case of IT policy and security arrangements.
"For consumers too, Windows 7 is already a very good product. How many users are interested in upgrading an old computer to Windows 8 as well as the tech geek?" he asked.
In addition to the display of the new Start Screen, Windows 8 itself brings desktop environment that is similar to previous versions of Windows. The operating system is also known to maintain compatibility and be able to run programs designed for previous OS.
PC market analyst of IDC Deddie Sionader said that the trend of Windows 8 has not been seen in the market, though it's a model there are 30 operating system based notebooks from multiple vendors are ready for the market.
IDC noted in the third quarter, the PC market than desktop computers and laptop categories experienced declines pengkapalan products year-on-year by 4.5 percent to 1.19 million units. The figure was 8.3 percent lower than the previous quarter.
Even so, Deddie adding that it was likely caused by banyaknyya government procurement projects that have not materialized. "In the fourth quarter report later, that figure could change as the exercise of the projects."
